CHULA VISTA, CA – The Southwestern College men's soccer team is preparing for the season opener on Friday, August 22 at Compton College.  There's one common theme that head coach Luis Cardona and players alike can agree on: one team, one mission.

The 2025 Jags might be one of the most well-rounded squads in the last several years. From a core group of returning players to an incoming crop of talented new faces in the lineup, the team is ready to re-establish a foothold in San Diego. Through one exhibition, the potential exists.

New Hires

Brand new era in the South Bay.  Joining first year Heach Coach Luis Cardona on the sideline will be Assistant Coaches Alfonso 'Poncho' Martinez and Christian 'Chikis' Mederos.  Coach Poncho will enter his 13th year with Rebels San Diego following a collegiate career at San Diego City College where he was a 2x conference champion (2010, 2011) and the 2011 conference player of the year. Coach Chikis joins the staff in his first collegiate coaching role in addition to his 10th year as the Legends FC SD Technical/ECNL Director.

The JAGS

SWC returns players from last season's team including Josh Sarabia, Isaac Torres, and Emilio Caudillo.  Freshmen Christian Quezada, Daniel Gutierrez, Ricardo Morfin-Assemat, Andres Ramirez, Jesus Valenzuela and Ramses Martinez will look to make an immediate impact.  The majority of the spring focused on how to play and compete as a group. With the addition of freshmen in the summer the team is all bought in and hungry for success.

2025 Season Schedule

The Jaguar men's soccer team and head coach Luis Cardona have 21 games on the docket, including six non-conference matches against Compton, Orange Coast, Irvine Valley, LA Harbor and Arizona Western who is ranked #5 in the United Soccer Coaches national junior college pre-season poll.

Following its season opener at Compton, Southwestern will continue on the road for two more matches.  The Jaguars will host their first home game of the season against Irvine Valley (Sept. 9).
