Ed Carberry elected to the CCCFCA Hall of Fame

Ed Carberry elected to the CCCFCA Hall of Fame

"When Ed Carberry played high school football in Whittier in the late 1960s, his head coach was Marijon Ancich, a Yugolslavian-born longshoreman who became a California football coaching legend" (Leonard, T. enewspaper.sandiegouniontribune). "Coach Ancich said you weren't a real coach until you'd won 100 games," Carberry said. "That's probably because he hadn't gotten to 200 yet. That always stuck in my mind. So maybe now I'm a real coach."

With 107 victories and winning 60% of his games, four conference championships and five bowl games, former Southwestern College head coach Ed Carberry is not only a 'real coach' - he is a hall of fame head coach, the California Community College Football Coaches Association announced on Saturday (March 8).

The Whittier, California native was inducted as part of the 2025 class in Visalia, California. Classes are elected every year by the California Community College Football Coaches Association representing the Southern California Football Association and Northern California Football Conference.  He joins a list of 54 hall of fame head coaches and will be the second member with Southwestern College ties inducted. John Fox was inducted in the 2005 class.  Carberry joins the likes of former inductees: John Madden (Allan Hancock), Bill Walsh (San Mateo), Tom Flores (Fresno City), Joe Gibbs (Cerritos), Dick Vermeil (San Mateo), Ernie Zampese (Allan Hancock), Pete Carroll (Marin), Andy Reid (Glendale), Pat Hill (LA Valley), Jim Fassel (Fullerton).

The influence of Ed Carberry extends far beyond his coaching accomplishments, modeling the character and aspirations of those who follow in Coach Carberry's footsteps.

Congratulations to Coach Ed Carberry, we honor your greatness.
